Overview

For the third year, the Cove View Men’s Golf Association, in conjunction with the Cove View Golf Course will continue the American National Insurance Cove View Cup. Patterned after the PGA Tours Fed Ex Cup, members of the Association can play in a season long competition earning points, and culminating in the crowning of a Cove View Cup Champion.

Every year the Stubbs Insurance Cove View Cup changes a little and this year is no exception. Changes to the Cup this year are the following.

  • The cup will have three separate flights according to handicap and age. There will still only be one winner at the end of the season, but you can now earn points and money in your own flight.

The flights will be:

  • A Flight: negative to a 3 handicap.
  • B Flight: 4 handicap and above.
  • Senor flight: For any players who are 55 and above. Players 55 and above can choose to play in the senior flight, if not then they will be in in the flight in which their handicap falls. Players must decide if they would like to play in the Senior Flight at the beginning of the season.

Note: Each week you may see yourself in a different flight as there is a chance that player’s handicaps will fluctuate throughout the season bouncing them between the A and B flight.

  • The last four weeks of the Cup, play points will be doubled.

Points will be earned over a span of 30 events (25 weekly play events and five tournaments). Local handicaps will be established after participants have played one local 9-hole round. A player’s local handicap will use the lowest four of your last eight 9-hole rounds. This local handicap will be used in all five-association tournaments. Players will retain their handicaps from the 2018 season.  Players will need to establish a local handicap from their respective tees in order to play in the tournaments.

Weekly play will take place at the player’s convenience on Monday afternoon, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday of each week beginning the week after daylight saving times in March.  All players will be required to play USGA rules and must be accompanied by another Association member to verify their score. If there is a question as to the rules, members will play a provisional ball and golf course management will issue a ruling.

All putts will need to be holed out. No putts can be given in the Cup.

Like last year, players will be limited to three rounds. Only the lowest score will be submitted for points.  Each first round a player plays, a cup Scorecard will be provided. Scorecards must be signed by you, and attested by another and turned in immediately after completion of each round. The same scorecard will be used for all rounds during the week with a new person attesting to your score each time.

For those who are playing in the senior flight tee boxes are determined by age. Players 70 and over will play from the yellow tee boxes. Ages 55-69 will play from the white tee boxes. All other players will play from the blue tee boxes. . A player beginning the year will stay on a Tee-box they start on for the whole year, based on the individual’s age.  It is suggested that tee boxes be a minimum 20 yards apart on all par 4 and par 5 holes and where possible on par 3 holes.

Cost is minimal with $5 paid to participate each round. $4 will be returned in prize money each week and $1 will be added to the purse for the Cove View Cup at the end of the year. For those who would want to participate, there is an option to pay and additional $2 for a skins game. Participation in each of the five tournaments will cost $20 and $100 from each tournament’s entry-fees will go to the Cup. Membership in the association cost $25 with money used to increase payouts at tournaments and help with projects around the Golf Course.  $5 from the association fees will fund a hole-in-one pot. $350 will go to the first hole-in-one. If no one hits a hole-in-one, the money left will turn into prize money for the club championship.  All participants will need to pay their association fees before their first round of the American National Insurance Cove View Cup or any tournament.

When weekly money has been paid, you must immediately start the round on hole 1 or 10. No practice on holes of the cup after money is paid per USGA and local rules.
