SUMMARY:State Bank of Southern Utah Match Play Tournament
DESCRIPTION:This year\, the match play format will be a double elimination tournament. Double elimination is a tournament style where opponents are eliminated after losing two matches\, rather than one match.  \nThe double-elimination format has two brackets that are interconnected. There is a winners bracket and the losers bracket. At the beginning of the tournament\, all the players are in the winners’ brackets. They advance and stay in this bracket as long as they win their matches. \nBut\, as soon as a player loses a match\, they drop down to the losers’ bracket\, where they have a second chance at victory. In the end\, the winners of these two brackets will collide in a face-off\, where the ultimate winner is determined. In this way\, the winner of the losers’ bracket will have to defeat the winners’ bracket leader in an 18 hole match. \nPlayers in the field will be assigned a seed number for the competition determined by their position in the Stubbs Insurance Cove View Cup \, as of Monday the week of the tournament (April 27 – before weekly play of the current week). The highest ranked player in the field Seed #1\, 2nd highest will be #2 and so on. \nAll matches are 9 hole matches and will be played to its conclusion. No halved matches. Matches all square after 9 holes will be extended until a winner is determined. \nThe Championship match is 18 holes and winners take all – Matches all square after 18 holes will be extended on holes 1 through 18 and repeated if necessary until a winner is determined. \nMatch Play Point Allocation\nYou receive the number of points of the round you were eliminated in.  \nYou will also receive five (5) bonus points for every match you win in group play.  \nAll participants will earn at least 15 points. \nRound of 16:      30 points. \nRound of 8:       45 Points \nFinal 4:              60 Points \nRunner Up:         80 points \nChampion:         100 Points \nMatch Play Glossary\nMatch Play: Match Play is the game played by holes instead of by strokes. \nReckoning of Hole (status of match): Reckoning of holes is kept by the terms: so many “holes up\,” or “all square” and so many “holes to play.” \nHalved Hole: A hole is halved when each side holes out in the same number of strokes. \nAll Square: A match is all square when each side has won the same number of holes as the other side\, or when each hole has been halved. \nDormie: A match is dormie when a side is as many holes up as there are holes remaining to be played. \nConcession of next stroke\, hole or match (Rule 2-4): When the opponent’s ball is at rest or is deemed to be at rest under Rule 16-2\, the player may concede the opponent to have holed out with his next stroke and the ball may be removed by either side with a club or otherwise. A player may concede a hole or a match at any time prior to the conclusion of the hole or the match. Concession of a stroke\, hole or match may not be declined or withdrawn.
